How to Play Atari's Asteroids® Arcade Game

Just like the classic arcade game, this free online Asteroids® game is simple to learn and get started but difficult to master. The goal of Asteroids® is to fly and control the spaceship to destroy asteroids and flying saucers flying all around the screen. But be careful not to collide with the asteroids that are all around you, and avoid counter-fire from the saucers.

For desktop or laptop players the game can be controlled with your mouse or your keyboard. If you are playing Asteroids® using either a mobile device or tablet you can play by tapping your device's screen.

About Asteroids®

Classic arcade game lovers rejoice!

This is the official ATARI® Asteroids® arcade game, first released in 1979 and widely considered to be one of the great classic video games from the Golden Age of Arcade Games. In fact, Asteroids® was one of the first major arcade hits of this era, selling over 70,000 arcade cabinets (arcade version of the game) and generating over $500 million from coin drops -that's a lot of quarters, dimes and nickels! Asteroids® was ultimately being released on the most popular gaming platforms including PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Microsoft Windows, and now here on Arkadium.com.

Like many popular arcade games of the era, the premise of Asteroids®, is simple: to destroy asteroids (hence the name) and saucers that fly across the screen using a triangular-shaped ship that can rotate left and right, thrust forward, and fire rounds anywhere on the screen. Asteroids® becomes more difficult after progressing through each level.

Enjoy the nostalgic factor with this classic arcade game, and good luck playing this official version of Atari's Asteroids®!
