How to Play Spider Solitaire

Playing spider solitaire online is easy — simply follow these five instructions:

Instruction 1: choose your difficulty level

Spider solitaire allows you to choose your preferred difficulty — one suit spider solitaire is the easiest, while four suit spider solitaire is the hardest.

Instruction 2: know that your cards need to be sorted into eight piles

The goal of this free card game is to sort all the cards on the table into the eight foundation slots at the top of the screen.

Instruction 3: sort your cards by descending order

To accomplish this, you must sort all the spider solitaire cards into runs of descending order (king, queen, jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, ace). The cards must all be the same suit. Once a run is complete, it will automatically go to one of the foundation slots.

Instruction 4: click and drag to move your cards

To move cards around the game, simply click and drag them to other stacks.

Instruction 5: click on the deck to be dealt more cards

If you want additional cards to be dealt, simply click on the deck in the upper left corner.

What are the Spider Solitaire rules?

The rules of spider solitaire depend on how many suits you choose to play with — your options are four suits, two suits, and one suit.

Rules of four suit solitaire

  • You can move a card onto a pile if it ranks lower than the one it’s placed on.
  • You can only move groups of cards if they’re the same suit and in descending order.
  • Cards that are face-down in open columns have to be turned over.
  • If you’re unable to make any moves then you can deal ten cards.
  • Complete piles that are in descending order by suit can be removed from the game.

Rules of two suit solitaire

  • Cards are split 50/50 into a single red and single black suit.
  • You can move groups of cards if they’re in descending order and either red or black.
  • Complete piles that are all red or black and in order can be removed from the game.

Rules of one suit solitaire

  • You can move any group of cards that are in descending order.
  • Any complete pile of cards can be removed from the game.

The standard version of online spider solitaire uses four suits, so it’s a good idea to learn the rules for this and master them.

What is Spider Solitaire?

Spider solitaire is one of the most popular types of two-deck solitaire.

It’s a one person game of patience that requires planning, precision, and persistence to order the 104 cards into eight foundation piles.

These piles are ordered by rank. In four suit solitaire they’re separated into the four playing card suits:

  • Clubs
  • Diamonds
  • Spades
  • Hearts

Spider solitaire is so-called because the game’s eight foundation piles are a reference to the eight legs of a spider.

What is the object of online Spider Solitaire?

Online Spider Solitaire has a simple purpose: to separate the game’s 104 cards into eight thirteen card piles by suit and arrange them in descending order, from king to ace.

These piles are removed from the playing table each time you complete one. The object is to remove all eight piles from the table. The idea is to do this in as few moves as possible.

This is because you begin with 500 points and lose a point each time you make a move.

Speed is particularly important in Spider Solitaire and many games feature a timer to help you keep track of the clock. The reason for this is so that you can record both your time and score, so you can share it with other fans of this great game!
